Dusty Adjective – covered or abounding with dust or lacking vitality

Choss Adjective – In the context of climbing and mountaineering, loose, unstable, or rotten rock that is dangerous and unsuitable for climbing.

My time working within a climbing centre opened my eyes to the horrors of old and second-hand equipment. Almost all climbing equipment has a lifespan, even if it is not used and stored correctly. Unfortunately, people are unaware of or ignore this, and so, daily, I would have to ask someone to stop using dangerous equipment.

To try and make people aware of the dangers, I started an Instagram account cataloguing the second hand, vintage, dangerous dusty choss I found for sale online.

Remember, if someone says a harness is “like new, still in perfect working order” but you’re buying it second hand and the material looks 30 years old and sunbleached, it’s probably not worth trusting your life to it.

This is all just for fun
